How it works
CGPA = Σ(SGPA_i × credits_i) ÷ Σ(credits_i). Each semester’s SGPA is weighted by its credit load, so heavier semesters count more.
Frequently asked
- How is CGPA calculated?
- CGPA is the credit-weighted average of all your semester SGPAs. Multiply each SGPA by that semester’s total credit hours, sum them, then divide by the total credits.
- Is CGPA the same as GPA?
- In the US, GPA is the cumulative number and is on a 4.0 scale. In India, CGPA is the cumulative number on a 10-point scale and SGPA refers to a single semester.
- How do I include a backlog in my CGPA?
- Once you re-take the paper, your university issues a revised SGPA for that semester. Replace the old SGPA in the row above with the new one and the CGPA updates accordingly.
- What is the maximum CGPA?
- 10.0 on the standard Indian 10-point scale. A few institutions use a 4.0 or 7.0 scale instead — check your transcript header for the maximum.
