How it works
CGPA = Σ(SGPA_i × credits_i) ÷ Σ(credits_i). If every semester has the same credit load, this simplifies to the plain average of the SGPAs.
Frequently asked
- Can I just average my SGPAs to get CGPA?
- Only if every semester has the same credit hours. Most courses don’t — fourth-year project semesters often carry more credits. The weighted formula is the only reliable way.
- How do I include backlog or improvement papers?
- Replace the original SGPA with the recalculated semester SGPA after the improvement is logged on your transcript. Most universities publish a revised SGPA, not a separate line item.
- What is a good CGPA in India?
- 8.0 and above is competitive for placements and higher studies. 9.0+ is rare and very strong for international applications.
