How it works

The general formula used by CBSE and most Indian universities is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. University-specific formulas: VTU = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, Anna University = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, Mumbai (Engineering) = 7.1 × CGPA + 12, KTU = piecewise (10×CGPA minus 7.5 / 6 / 5 depending on CGPA band).

Frequently asked

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
Multiply your CGPA by 9.5. For example, a CGPA of 8.0 = 8.0 × 9.5 = 76%. This is the formula recommended by CBSE for class X and class XII results.
Why does my university use a different formula?
Engineering and technical universities calibrate the formula against their own grading distribution. VTU subtracts 0.75 because the lowest passing CGPA there maps to a different percentage than the CBSE scale. Use the dropdown above to pick your university.
What percentage is 7.5 CGPA?
Using the general formula: 7.5 × 9.5 = 71.25%. For VTU: (7.5 − 0.75) × 10 = 67.5%. For Anna University: (7.5 − 0.5) × 10 = 70%.
Is 8 CGPA a good score?
8 CGPA equals 76% (general formula). It is considered a first class with distinction at most Indian universities, competitive for higher studies and most job applications.
