How it works
Mean = sum ÷ count. Median = middle value when sorted (average of the two middle values if count is even). Mode = most frequent value(s). Mean is sensitive to outliers; median is not — which is why housing prices use median.
Frequently asked
- When should I use mean vs median?
- Use mean for symmetric data without outliers. Use median when the data is skewed or has outliers — income, home prices, response times.
- What if no number repeats — what is the mode?
- There is no mode. Some datasets have multiple modes (bimodal) or none. The calculator reports all modes if there is a tie.
- Can I paste numbers from a spreadsheet?
- Yes. The calculator accepts numbers separated by commas, spaces, tabs, or newlines, so any spreadsheet column or comma-separated list works.
